Draft Notification on Declaration of Wildlife Sanctuary Buffer Zones published in Malayalam, Buffer Zones around Silent Valley National Park and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala news
Kochi: The Malayalam translation of the draft notification regarding the declaration of buffer zones around Silent Valley National Park and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, split between Kozhikode and Wayanad, has been posted on the website, the central government informed at the High Court. The central government has also informed that this translation has been handed over to the state government to be published in the gazette. It was further clarified that the deadline for submitting any objections from individuals to the draft notification has been extended to December 28.
Justice N Nagaresh thus resolved the contempt of court which was filed for the delay in publishing the draft notification in Malayalam.
Residents of Kozhikode and Wayanad had asked to avoid human-inhabited areas and agricultural lands in the buffer zones of Silent Valley National Park and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary. The central government that released the draft buffer zone notification had ordered those who objected to it to file a written complaint within 60 days.
The petitioners then approached the High Court to request the publication of a Malayalam translation of the draft notification indicating the difficulty of reading, understanding and raising concerns about the contents of the notification published in English and Hindi.
