Huawei, the Ministry of Tourism and Safaricom team up to promote wildlife conservation
NAIROBI, Kenya June 7 – Huawei Technologies, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Safaricom and China Media Group (CMG), has brought Amboseli National Park into the homes of Kenyans using an energy grid platform solar as part of national efforts to boost wildlife conservation.
As the country celebrates World Environment Day, the company aired an impressive live broadcast of wild animals in their natural habitat at Amboseli National Park to illustrate the use of modern technology to monitor wild animals endangered species and enhance security in their natural habitat.
During the online broadcast, viewers were treated to spectacular views of elephants, buffaloes, wildebeest, hippos and zebras as well as thousands of flamingos, all against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. .
The move, Huawei CEO Will Meng said, will help rebuild the tourism sector as Kenya’s economy continues to recover from restrictions related to the Covid 19 pandemic.
He also credited the company’s Fusion Solar Green Power Home technology with generating renewable energy to power camera equipment located in the national park.
Renewable energy is central as an alternative energy choice due to the abundance of sunshine and the accessibility of solar power systems for remote areas.
“This is the first time we’ve done this in Kenya and it’s a clear testament to the possibilities we can realize with a 5G network. The ability of 5G to bring incredible speeds and very fast response times enables innovative solutions in all sectors, and tourism is no exception,” he said.
Meng added that technology will increasingly become a powerful tool for environmental and wildlife conservation through the management of endangered species and the information, education and inspiration of the whole nation.
Reaching up to 100 million impressions, the event educated viewers on the importance of the natural environment and wildlife, as well as the growing interest in Kenyan tourism in support of the Magical campaign Kenya.
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Najib Balala kicked off the livestream noting how it enhances the Magical Kenya brand: “Kenya is endowed with extraordinary environmental resources which we protect and develop, in the belief that a strong ecosystem enables a dynamic economy and social development. Kenya is not just a top tourist destination, we are also a top technology nation,” Balala said.
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said it was a clear illustration of the power of combining technology and innovation to transform lives.
“This broadcast, powered by 5G from Safaricom in partnership with Huawei and the Ministry of Tourism, underscores our belief that 5G has a great future to enrich and enhance the tourism experience in this country,” he said.
